Building on the success of Belmont’s already established vocational programme, the Motor Vehicles Department is now fully operational. The school is now accredited to offer City and Guild qualifications, with units that include servicing, brakes, suspension and many aspects of car repair. The school also offers motorcycle maintenance and has two bikes in the Department which pupils can rebuild and work on.
Mr Hayland, Vocational Coordinator and qualified motor mechanic stated, “This is a fantastic resource for our pupils. It enables them to gain qualifications that usually colleges only offer, and really helps with college applications and apprenticeships. The lads really enjoy it and if they want to go into the trade, this really is the best starting point for them”.
The unit has a fully operational service department just like your local garages, with a car ramp. There are also a collection of petrol and diesel engines for the lads to work on. We even have a Fiat Punto cut in half and mounted on the wall for the lads to work on.
