On Wednesday 28th November, pupils from KS3 returned to school after an extended weekend and were treated to a trip to watch Beauty and the Beast at Oswaldtwistle Civic Theatre. We travelled by coach and once seated, all children and staff made a tremendous effort to interact with those on stage. The modern take on the fairy-tale classic, included songs from ‘The Greatest Showman’, ‘Queen’ and to Miss McConnell’s delight a rendition of ‘baby wolf’ was also performed.
Parts of the play saw the audience soaked with water and a poor teacher from another school won the affections of ‘Mrs Potts’, who despite being male, boasted better legs than most of the female staff.
The interval was enjoyed with ice-cream before we returned to our sets to see: ‘if anyone really ever could, learn to love a beast.’
At one point, an energetic dance routine saw the beast momentarily lose his mask, but he recovered it well in time for his air guitar solo. The beast died, but not a second before Rose could proclaim her love and break the spell and much to our surprise there was a happy ending…we did not see that coming.
The theatre was enjoyed by all and the behaviour of the pupils and staff exemplary.
